HEART feeling

Endearment

Affection with sweetness — the sense that someone is precious to you.

SeparationEmotionsSensationsFeelingsUnity
AbsenceMindBodyHeartPresence

Classical Definition

A word, gesture, or feeling that expresses tenderness and fondness, especially toward someone held close.

The Spiritual Perspective

Someone does something small and clumsy, and your heart melts a little.

That's endearment. Affection with a smile in it.

It's the way a person's particular habits — the way they laugh too loud, the way they always forget their keys — stop being annoying and start being precious.

Endearment doesn't admire what's perfect about someone. It loves what's specific about them — the small, human details no one else would notice.

About

The Cover Story

“That's so annoying... but kind of cute.”

What it actually hides: Real tenderness toward someone's specific, unpolished humanity, half-hidden behind a joke.

A Moment of Reflection

Guided awareness · Breathwork

Bring to mind a small, specific thing about someone — a habit, a phrase they always use, something slightly imperfect.

Let yourself feel, just for a moment, how precious that specific thing is to you.

What the Traditions Say

Endearment is what's left over after you stop expecting someone to be impressive. It's affection that has gotten close enough to see the specific, unpolished person, and loved that more.

— Avi Itzkovitch, Practical Awareness, 2026
Awareness

Endearment shows up exactly where perfection doesn't. The moment you find someone's flaw lovable instead of irritating, you're not tolerating them — you're endeared to them. That's a different thing entirely.
