Classical Definition

A malicious motivation to harm, frustrate, or humiliate another person, even at cost to oneself. It combines resentment with a retaliatory impulse and is considered a negative social emotion that can lead to costly punishment behavior.

About

Spite is resentment that has found a direction. It is the wish, conscious or not, that the person who caused pain should experience some version of it. It is among the least satisfying of all emotional projects.
